Our Springer the barking nightmare.

Hi looking for some help and advice regarding our 2 1/2 year old springer. He is a great dog apart from his barking,it has got to a point it is driving us crazy.Barks all the way on car journeys,return journeys he is fine.Barks incessantly when someone comes to the house,even when their in he still will bark. Has started barking at certain men on walks, an alert bark to let us know someone is at the door is fine and expected,but he goes on and on. Tried a collar (not shock) just vibrating, tried one of these pressure air cans,and a few other things. Also he on occasion has growled at both me and my husband, and will try to dominate us by laying over us. He hates myself and husband sitting together,he won’t growl but tries to get between us. I am not sure if I have been to soft or to tough. He is great with the grandchildren, good with most adults as long as they let him make the introduction.But one son in law he does not like,never known why but think he may have teased him a time or two. Would appreciate any advice.
