Yorkie was Hit by a Pickup Truck

My 2 year old Zippy was clipped by a truck and broke his pelvis in 8 places, hips joints are still mostly intact. It’s been a few days and he’s healing great, not eating hard food yet though.

Any advice on his care? Things I should look out for? The vet just say stick him in a cage for 4-6 weeks and carry him around.
