Some dog tales are profoundly moving, and Tyson’s story is certainly among them. When the tale of this robust, aged dog first came to the attention of rescuers, they were left speechless. This dog from New York City was discovered in an apartment alongside his deceased owner, having been there for approximately five days. Tyson might not have fully understood the situation, but he clearly felt that something was amiss. The moment finally arrived for him to leave his home, and it shattered his heart. Tyson was visibly among the most distressed and sorrowful dogs. Upon their arrival to retrieve him, the compassionate team from Twenty Paws Rescue, based in Brooklyn, New York, witnessed him hesitantly enter his crate, unwilling to leave it.
His fear and loneliness were so overwhelming that he lacked the strength to come out. However, the experienced rescuers knew that time was the only cure for a broken heart. They patiently waited until Tyson understood that they meant him no harm. Letting go of his familiar surroundings was undoubtedly difficult, especially after witnessing his owner’s death. Tyson struggled significantly, facing diagnoses of anemia and a broken heart. He withdrew from eating or socializing with other dogs, choosing instead to remain secluded in his crate.
This disheartened dog needed someone who could empathize with his suffering, and Laura was that person! The TPR team identified her as the ideal foster mother for Tyson. Laura, a dedicated volunteer and avid dog enthusiast, went to great lengths to provide Tyson with comfort and peace. Within days, her caring demeanor and patience began to show results. Tyson started eating normally, offering Laura the softest kisses and seeking cuddles nearly nonstop.
Gradually, Tyson began to interact and play with other dogs, emerging from his shell and showing readiness to trust a new human. Despite efforts to find Tyson a home with his late owner’s family, no one was available to take him in. Then, Sarah appeared. This compassionate animal lover contacted TPR and offered to give Tyson a permanent home, which proved to be a perfect decision.
The instant she entered the facility, Tyson bonded with her, embracing Sarah with open paws and heart. Witnessing Tyson connect with his new guardian after enduring so much hardship was incredibly touching. Rachel and Laura were moved to tears of happiness, thrilled to see this remarkable dog settle into his forever home.
“I’m excited to welcome him into my life and just watch him get more comfortable and realize that this is my final stop. This is where I live now, and this is home,” Sarah states in the video below. Tyson is now a happy boy, living out his remaining years surrounded by all the love in the world.
