my heeler/pit rescue has been with us for 3 yrs now. a recent move from NM to DC had me giving him nextguard and heartguard because of the flea/tick mosquito infestation here. An allergy to the heartworm meds had him break out in massive hives and wheezy, which cause a middle of the night EMER RM visit at the vets. we tried ano heart worm med and ano reaction : scaly skin on his back down his spine and flakes everywhere. He didn’t scratch, but I felt an oatmeal bath would help (soothe?) however, what happend immed after that was he just shut down, even stopped walking with in 2 days. ANO vet visit, she told us that he had hair folic infection, and the bath just made it worse. spread the bacteria and inflammed his skin. He is now on 5 meds. antibiotic, anti inflammitory, pepcid, benadryl, and pro biotics. he is feeling much better. Seriously thought he had cushings disease…….it’s been a week and the scales are back and flakier than ever. he doesn’t itch or scratch……we can’t give him a bath until after all meds are gone. I think the VET is guessing jsut like i am. I want to bathe him and just dont know what to do. The weather here is different, we are now in an apartment 9th floor vs a house in desert with dog door. Climate conditions def will have an effect, but i am honeslty scared of fleas and tic having never seen/been around either. help!
