When You Buy This Book, A Shelter Dog Gets A Warm, Cozy Bed

| March 25, 2016

FarmHouse Fresh®, a natural and organic skincare company, has parlayed its philanthropic animal rescue mission into an 18-page picture book that when purchased ($10 retail), donates $7 (all monies outside of printing and receiving in the books at the FHF warehouse) directly to the donation of dog beds for a waiting list of shelters and rescues around the country. In return for book purchases, the company turns customers’ personal selfies into “Certified Dog Bed Fairies” complete with wings and halos.

The Book

What do each of the dogs in the shelters say when given their very own dog bed? This funny, endearing, 18-page hard-cover picture book titledIs It True They Call You the Dog Bed Fairy?, captures their thoughts in a furry tale that will touch your heart, while providing dog beds to shelters across the U.S. The book retails for $10.00 on the company’s website and through participating spas and retail stores carrying Farmhouse Fresh products. Each book purchased donates $7 to buy beautiful, durable, washable dog beds. The company maintains a waiting list of rescues and shelters. Shelters fill out a dog bed wish list, and Farmhouse Fresh fulfills their wishes as book sales accumulate enough funds to outfit a shelter.

“The Dog Bed Fairy Project is having an immediate impact on the quality of life animals have in shelter environments,” says Shannon McLinden, CEO of Farmhouse Fresh. “It is estimated that more than 4 million dogs enter shelters each year. Having a comforting bed while they await their rescue or forever family is important. City shelters often have no funds for bedding, yet it is such a basic necessity to keep animals off of cold, hard floors. Imagine if you spent 24 hours a day lying on concrete? Our goal is to outfit entire shelters, one at a time, whether they need 30 beds or 100.”

Farmhouse Fresh partnered with Carolina Pet Company, a maker of premium plush beds, as well as Kuranda brand, which provides sling-like comfort that lifts dogs off the ground to provide the beds.

“Wish lists are provided to shelters with a wide range of sizes, options and colors, and as Dog Bed Fairy book sales accumulate to cover the wish lists, we ship the beds,” a representative for FarmHouse Fresh told iHeartDogs.

The Beds then ship directly from the manufacturers and FarmHouse Fresh pays for the shipping out of their own pocket so that the entire $7 really does go to the purchase of the beds.

Shelters that want to get on the wish list should contact Scott at scott@farmhousefreshgoods.com.

Become A Dog Bed Fairy

To help spread the word about this book and the company’s charitable initiative to supply dog beds to shelters and rescues, Farmhouse Fresh asks readers to engage their friends, families and colleagues in a social media challenge to become “FarmHouse Fresh Dog Bed Fairies.” With each online purchase, the reader will receive a welcome email with instructions on how to upload a selfie or photo of a friend or family member they are gifting. Within 2 business days, the company sends back a customized Dog Bed Fairy photo which the reader can post on social media using the hashtag #DogBedFairy, and tag the company on Instagram (@FarmHouseFresh), Facebook (FarmHouseFreshGoods), and Twitter (@FarmHouseFresh).

As a reminder of the challenge, the bookmark provided inside each book explains how readers can e-mail the company their photo(s). Each month, the company will randomly select fairies who posted a photo using the correct hashtag, and send the winning fairies a free, limited-edition poster print of pages from the book.

“We can only imagine the surprise of friends and family when they see their cute Dog Bed Fairy photo,” says McLinden. “Our goal is to bring smiles to dog and animal lovers, while providing comfort, warmth and love to our furry friends in shelters, plus raising public awareness of their need for a permanent home.”
