Are you among the thousands of conspiracy theorists planning to storm Area 51 on September 20? Officials in Nevada may be harboring extraterrestrials, but the folks at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare have nothing to hide.

Instead of searching for aliens, they invite you to #stormtheshelter and meet your new best friend!

“Come storm our shelter…” OKC Animal Welfare’s Facebook post reads. “We have great animals ready to protect you from the Area 51 aliens. Adoption isn’t that far out of this world!

Some of the shelter’s adoptable cuties were happy to pose in aluminum hats and antennae (to keep the aliens from reading their thoughts).

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is the city’s only animal shelter. They serve more than 24,000 dogs and cats each year. Although they are an open admission shelter, their goal is to reach a live release rate of 90% – and YOU can help them get there!

Adopt a dog or cat. If you can’t adopt foster. If you can’t foster, sponsor a pet in need. If you can’t sponsor, donate. If you can’t donate, volunteer. And if you can’t volunteer your time, help educate others about the plight of America’s shelter dogs. You can start by sharing this post!

So far, OKC Animal Welfare’s #stormtheshelter campaign has raised $1,097. If you are saving up for a visit to Area 51, consider donating your alien-hunting fund to some fabulous shelter dogs instead!

Make your contribution through Facebook or directly on the shelter’s website.
