Katarina is a 10-year-old Yorkshire Terrier that lived her entire life in a puppy mill. It’s unknown how many litters she had, but we know her life was not something to be jealous of. When her foster mom, Ashleigh Reader, took her in, she noticed that poor Katarina had no experience with dog toys at all. It’s a bittersweet discovery, because although we know Katarina had never seen toys before, Reader was able to give her a whole new outlook on life.

She decided that a shopping spree at a local pet store was the best thing that could happen to Katarina right now. “This is what happens when you take a dog to Petsmart who has lived her entire life in a puppy mill! She was just a little excited!” Reader told The Dodo. Katarina went crazy for the toys at the store and Reader brought a couple of them home for her. One, a squeaky corn dog, Katarina played with the whole way home.

It’s sad to think that Katarina never had any fun in her previous life, but Reader has provided her an outstanding foster home. Working with the Hub City Humane Society in Mississippi, they have treated Katarina for heartworm, provided a dental cleaning, and had her spay surgery done. Little Katarina is certainly making up for lost time enjoying a puppyhood she never got to have, but she’s certainly in a good place now and happy to be there!
