#5 – German Spitz

A breed that is just being recognized by the AKC, the German Spitz is thought to be a very ancient breed, with spitz-type dogs living in the area that is now Germany thousands of years ago. It was popular from the 18th Century until WWI, when patriotism decreased the demand for all the German breeds. (www.akc.org)

#6 – Doberman Pinscher

Although not much is known about the breed’s history, we do know it was developed in Germany, sometime around 1900. (www.akc.org). The word “pinscher” means terrier (like in Affenpinscher).
