It’s a match made in heaven:
3-year-old Sapphyre Johnson was born without any feet – the doctors’ could find no reason why.
9-week-old Lt. Dan is a white German Shepherd Dog puppy born missing a paw.
They were meant for each other. And as you can see by the video, they know it.
Lt. Dan (Named after the character in Forest Gump who had lost his legs), was in the care of Karen Riddle, after his breeder had wanted to put him to sleep due to the birth defect. However, Riddle believed the puppy had a higher purpose, so she contacted Shriners Hospital and asked if anyone was looking for a puppy for a disabled person.
It was love at first sight. As soon as Sapphyre was a picture of Lt. Dan, she said “That’s my puppy. He’s just like me.” Watch the video below to see them together:
Her parents hope Lt. Dan will help her feel more comfortable about her body as she grows up and that he can give her a way to talk about herself to others. Plus, she will always have a non-judgmental friend by her side to talk to about anything.
We think Lt. Dan is definitely fulfilling Riddle’s prophesy that he was destined for something great.
