iHeartDogs works closely with Greater Good Charities by donating part of each sale to their various charity efforts. One of these programs, Rescue Bank, works to donate quality dog food to shelters and animal rescues in need. Some organizations could not run without kind donations like this, so by supporting us you’re making happy endings like the ones below possible!
Bert had every reason to mistrust people. Imported from Germany and then dumped in a rural area with his two brothers, all he knew was abandonment and hard times.
When the three dogs were finally found and rescued, they were “hungry, under-socialized, and afraid of the world.” Through no fault of their own, these consequences of their abandonment could make them less appealing to future adopters.
Fortunately, Bert and his brothers made it to Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan. RPSM receives nutritious food donations through Rescue Bank.
Providing these starving pups with nutritious food was the first step towards improving their health and teaching them that people can be caring. Plus, saving money on food costs meant RPSM could afford training for the under-socialized dogs.
Feeling Healthy, Happy, And Ready To Love
After gaining his strength and completing training, Bert found his forever family in 2019. Thanks to RPSM, Bert is now “living the life of luxury and living happily after training. He’s now potty trained and doing extremely well.”
Amazingly, this dog someone else left behind now lives an incredible and fulfilling life with two people who adore him. As Bert’s new mom shared on Facebook:
“Today he is fed everyday, plays safely in a fenced in yard, takes lots of leashed walks and sleeps in a king size bed.”
Now that he has food, training, and lots of love, Bert has shown everyone what a fun dog he really is. According to his adopters and RPSM:
“He is part snuggle bug, a lot fish, a little flying dog and mostly Doofus.”
What iHeartDogs Customers Had To Do With Bert’s Success Story
Because RPSM benefits from the Rescue Bank donations, they have more money to put towards other important aspects of rescue. According to the foster-based rescue:
“Rescue bank provides us low cost food so we can spend more money on dog trainers and vet care.”
Rescue Bank operates on a national food bank model. When nutritious pet food nears its “best by” date, has minor packaging defects, or is being re-branded, manufacturers will donate that food to Rescue Bank. Then, Rescue Bank makes food grants to community-based animal welfare groups.
When you shop eligible products on the iHeartDogs.com store, you’re also donating to Rescue Bank so they can keep saving pups like Bert. His story reminds us why it’s more than worth it.
