Melt At This Video Of Man Introducing His Dog To A Neighborhood Cat

| August 23, 2022

Yes, we all know that popular saying about cats and dogs: they’re both cute in different ways! No, I’m kidding. I know the saying is about cats and dogs inherently not getting along. But – have we ever considered that in many of these affirming cases, the dog and cat hadn’t been properly introduced?

Cheyenne, a TikTok user from the UK, caught one such proper cat/dog introduction out her window. She filmed the adorable interaction between a man, his dog, and a neighborhood cat, then posted it to TikTok.

A Cute Meet-Cute

Neighbors know George the cat, an orange boy with a white chest and feet. Four-month-old Ted the dog, however, had not yet been acquainted with George.

When Ted and his human encountered George on a stroll, they stopped. Ted’s dad gently bent down to pick up his dog and give him a closer look (and sniff) at the neighborhood feline.

Cheyenne captured this entire meet and greet on camera. In the video you can tell that George is, at first, rightfully hesitant. Ted just seems curious and excited.

Ultimately though, there’s no hostility from either cat or dog, just intrigue. They smell each other, check each other out, and calmly assess.

Once Ted’s dad feels his dog understands George’s whole deal, he gently sets his dog back down. He then gives the cat a reassuring and grateful pet.

Next time these two encounter each other on a walk, it’ll be like greeting an old friend. Watch the sweet video below:

Safe, Supervised, And Sweet

After Cheyenne shared this video to her TikTok, it went viral. Eventually, the man featured found it and commented on it to set the record straight.

“I should point out that I had petted the cat first and assessed how this might turn out. Ted is 4 months old and has been introduced to cats before,” he wrote.

Some people fear how animals who haven’t met before will interact, but mostly this video just shows a man teaching his furry son something new. That’s how tons of viewers interpreted it anyway.

“He is probably trying to get his pup used to seeing/being around cats very sweet,” – @geemarshy via TikTok

This is so good. He’s socialising them. This way you don’t get the dogs attacking the cat in future. They both know they are safe together. Well done,” – @veganplantbased via TikTok

If you’ve never done this specifically, you’ve probably performed a similar gesture: holding out a random item for your dog to sniff (and therefore, know).

Ted is, according to his dad, a Woodle, which is a Welsh Terrier/Poodle mix. He has his own TikTok which you can follow here.
