John volunteers for a rescue group and was asked to facilitate an owner-surrender after they heard about a dog in grave condition. The pup, named Nova, needed veterinary care immediately! John, who also founded Ruff Riders Animal Transport, picked her up and took her straight to the animal clinic.
The poor girl’s face and underside were in horrible condition, and she had obviously been suffering for a while. The vet at the clinic was stumped! He couldn’t figure out what was wrong with Nova! But he was willing to prescribe different medications. Sadly, Nova was resistant to all of them.
John took to social media for crowdfunding, hoping donations would aid in her care. Nova didn’t just have a problem with her face and body; she was also emaciated, which affected her muscles. John went to work immediately to improve her health as best as possible.
With donations (thankfully) pouring in, Nova was able to see a dermatology specialist. It took the dermatologist four months to finally diagnose Nova with lupus. Unbeknownst to John, it was the sun triggering Nova’s condition. And he had spent so much time with Nova outdoors, getting her in shape! What follows, and Nova’s transformation, is incredible!
