When you’re a dog, you don’t have to worry about things like money. You don’t even know what the lottery is, let alone what a lottery ticket looks like.
To some dogs, like Alaskan Klee Kais Apple and Jack, a lottery ticket actually looks like a tasty snack. Either that, or they find the sight of one reprehensible. Whatever the reason, these two troublemakers tore their parents’ ticket to shreds.
A Delicious Lottery Ticket
It’s not clear which dog if not both dogs did the damage to the ticket. Apparently it happened while Salem residents Rachel Lamet and her husband Nathan were asleep. Rachel explained to the Oregon Lottery:
“For some reason we left the ticket on the ottoman and they decided it was delicious. I went to bed and when I woke up it was eaten to the point that I thought it was unable to be checked. But my husband thought it was hilarious and someone might get a good laugh, at the very least. He said it’s for sure a winner.”
The Oregon Lottery does allow mail-in claims, typically processed within 10 business days. So, just for kicks, the Lamets mailed the destroyed ticket to the Oregon Lottery along with a letter explaining what happened (and a photo of the culprits).
“We have two Alaskan Klee Kai [puppies] that we dearly love. Unfortunately they decided that they enjoy the taste of [your] lottery tickets. So we write to you in regards to see if there is by some chance you may be able to see if they ate the winning ticket,” the letter states.
It’s A Winner!
It turned out that, yes, the ticket was a winner. Incredibly, the Oregon Lottery actually did accept it as valid once the ticket had been pieced back together.
So – in the end, everything turned out okay. The couple was still able to retrieve their winnings. But, ultimately, those winnings amounted to just $8.
Upon learning the ticket actually was a winner (however small the amount), Rachel responded:
“That’s too funny. We are definitely getting more chew toys, they go through a lot. We love them, but they are crazy sometimes.”
Apple and Jack thankfully didn’t destroy a mega-millions ticket, but I’m sure the Lamets will be more selective about where they keep things like this at night going forward. Although, who’s to say the chewing wasn’t actually a good luck charm?
