Jill McGlaughlin never thought she’d be a writer, but after she rescued her dog, DD, she knew she had to share her story. Four years ago, McGlaughlin and her family went on a vacation to Mississippi. During their trip, a stray dog followed them to the place they were staying and she remained near the family all week. As their vacation came to an end, McGlaughlin knew she couldn’t just leave the dog behind. They fell in love with DD in no time.

As they were about to leave Mississippi without DD, the little dog followed their car close behind. Right away, they knew leaving her alone would be a mistake. So, they brought her home with them to Virginia and took her to a vet to make sure she didn’t belong to anyone else. Sure enough, DD was a stray and the family gladly took her in.

“She was already starving. You could see that she had not been fed, and you could see her ribs and her hip bones,” said McGlaughlin. “It was just tragic to think what could happen, and so I just wanted to be able to do what I could for that one little animal and hopefully inspire others to do that too.”

DD’s Miracle

When McGlaughlin adopted DD, she posted about the dog’s story on Facebook. Her friends and family were moved by it, so they encouraged her to share DD’s story in order to help other dogs. While McGlaughlin had never written a book before, she agreed that it sounded like a great idea.

In her spare time, McGlaughlin worked on the book as much as possible. After about two years, it was ready to go. The book is titled DD’s Miracle.

“It didn’t really seem real until we actually had a hard copy of it and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is us. This is our story,'” McGlaughlin said.

McGlaughlin has decided to donate some of the proceeds from the book to non-profit animal rights organizations in Virginia and Mississippi. Of course, the book was also created to encourage others to help animals in need as well.

The book is now on sale at Amazon, Target, Barnes and Noble, and Mascot Books. McGlaughlin is so glad that she was able to share DD’s story with the world. She hopes that it can touch the hearts of others and encourage more people to adopt.
