The Swift Current Fire Department in Saskatchewan, Canada is reminding residents of the dangers of thin ice after an off-leash dog broke through the brittle covering on a frozen creek.
Firefighters responded to a call from the dog’s owner and were able to rescue the pup. The dramatic scene was captured on video and posted to the SCFD Facebook page as a warning to parents and pet owners.
“STAY OFF THE ICE!!” Fire Chief Dennis Pilon wrote. “Yesterday afternoon, our firefighters were busy at the creek, rescuing someone’s pet. They allowed their dog to run off leash when it ventured out onto the ice and fell through. Quick action calling the fire department helped save their pet. Please keep your pets and children away from the Creek, the ice is thin and it is NOT safe.”
The chilly dog appears wobbly and unsteady when he first reaches dry land, but as he climbs the hill toward his waiting owners, he seems to regain his bearings.
