Teddy Bear Look-a-Like Dog Is Stealing Hearts Online

| July 13, 2017

If you’re ever in the Philippines and see a small, fuzzy bear walking around at the end of a leash, you may need to stop and take a closer look. You’re probably looking at one of the internet’s favorite dogs—a three-year-old Chow Chow named Chowder.

Chowder’s owners have always known their fluffy pup to be extra adorable, and they decided to give the dog his own social media accounts to share the love.

It didn’t take long for his Instagram and Facebook to catch the attention of thousands of dog lovers. Everyone is drawn to Chowder’s delightfully fluffy face, but his most noticeable quality is that he looks like the cutest bear you’ve ever seen.

Chow Chows are known for their lion-like manes and wide muzzles, but Chowder’s impeccably groomed fur, deep-set eyes, and short, pointed ears make him look like a friendly woodland creature that’s more interested in drooling on your lap than stealing your picnic basket. Chowder loves to go on walks and play with his family, but from the majority of his Facebook pictures, his favorite activity is sleeping. Which is perfectly fine, because he somehow manages to be even cuter when he’s napping.

Chow Chows are an ancient dog breed that have a reputation for being aloof and sometimes aggressive. Chowder may be a purebred Chow Chow, but he doesn’t fit those classifications. His owners told BuzzFeed that the dog loves people and will do almost anything for a hug. He’s hardly ever disappointed, because who could honestly resist hugging that big ball of fluff?

Pictures of Chowder are all over the internet, and the debate about whether he’s a dog, bear, or possibly even a giant stuffed animal doesn’t seem to be slowing down. According to his Facebook, all this bear-dog wants to do is give people a reason to smile. Bad days can’t compete with a picture of a fluffy pooch wearing socks with his face on them.
