This Senior Blind Dog Was Dumped At The Shelter, But Then Something Wonderful Happened

While there are lucky shelter dogs who got adopted and found a home in time for holidays, Blackie, a 14-year-old blind dog, was dumped at the shelter just before Christmas.

Poor Blackie was surrendered to the Austin Animal Center in Texas. Blackie was clearly neglected. He lost his vision because of untreated glaucoma and cataracts. He has lived outside his whole life and it appears that this poor dog has never seen a vet.

Blackie’s previous owners assumed that the senior dog would be put down, but instead, something wonderful happened to Blackie. Although the vet considered euthanasia because of Blackie’s condition, and because he may only have a couple of days left to live, someone didn’t give up on Blackie just yet.

A volunteer with Austin Pets Alive, a woman named Brunie Drumond, heard about Blackie’s story. She then came forward to help Blackie. Upon hearing that Blackie may only have a few days left to live, Brunie gave him the best Christmas gift she could give. She gave Blackie a loving home.

Together, the two spend the holidays together. And something even more wonderful happened. When Blackie was shown love, care, and compassion, he was happier and became even more energetic.

Tune in to catch Brunie and Blackie on Fox And Friends at 8:50 a.m.!

Awww…Blackie looks so happy!

Austin Animal Center posted on Facebook, “We don’t know how long Blackie has to live, but we do know that he will never spend another night outdoors, cold and alone. We know he’ll get only the best love and care from Brunie while he is with us and most importantly, we know when Blackie passes away, he will be surrounded by people and animals who love him and who, at the very end, showed him what it’s like to be a part of a family.
