We got our golden retriever from the shelter as a rescue. She was about 12 pounds underweight, had no long hair and the fur on her
back was like bristles on a broom. After just 3 months she was
thriving, She gained weight and had a beautiful coat. She is small for a golden, about 50 pounds and 22 inches high. Do you suppose she is mixed or could her size be attributed to her rough beginning? -

She looks just like my youngest golden. Bisky is a pedigree. Your girl is probably out of the field lines. She is gorgeous, but I am predudiced.

My Golden looks like yours, is AKC REGISTERED AND SAME SIZE. She was the runt of the litter and weighed 6 ounces at birth.

Coming from a shelter she could be mixed but she looks all golden from the photo. I know that where I am there’s an increasing number of breeders that breed smaller goldens. I got mine form one such breeder. he’s quite small so ppl think he’s female.
but the other thing that could have contributed to his small size is that he contracted gastro as a pup and my partner and I think that affected his growth somehow. Before he was sick he looked like he was going to be bigger than what he is now.
If you really want to find out, there is now a test you can get done, but I hear it can be expensive, but it tells you what breed your pup is.. or mix of..
this photo is Brodie on his recent birthday 4yo he can barely make it past 25kg in weight and as you can see, he can barely make it to the same level as the dining table.
