Could be a sign of heart problems. You should have your vet take blood for testing. Maybe an xray too.

Check out the medication ursodiol. I had a Chihuahua with the same problem. He did very well & his number returned to normal. The medication can also be stopped and see how the dog does when off the medication and if they don’t do well then they can go back on the medication. It can be given to dogs that tiny in a liquid form. My vet determined the amount needed for Gizmo in a liquid form and it worked very well.

BJ – I am so very sorry for the loss of your precious little baby. One of the best things you can do is to create a scrapbook for her or a remembrance journal and to write about her and always keep good happy memories every single day. And talk to her and never forget her. She us always going to be with you;its just going to be a different. I recently lost my little girl in January and it was really difficult and it is still difficult, but I have a little memorial of her and I talk to her everyday. I found a video on my phone that I look at everyday. Your baby’s death is something you will never forget but you can adjust to your new identity without her & allow her wonderful memories shape who you now have become. Never worry about what some people say who don’t understand the bond between people & their pets. We understand, all of us who responded to you. Know there are people who care & are thinking of you today, tomorrow, always.

Each Chihuahua is different but many senior Chihuahuas climb one step at a time. It may take them a little longer, but they can usually manage. Even if their sight is diminushing, Chihuahuas will navigate almost any obstacle to be near their “parents”. To best train, stand or sit at the top of the stairs & call them. If possible, see if you can find some stairs for practice. The only exception would be severe illness or if they are very tiny.
