A Southern California high school cross country team decided to step up their training game and add a little excitement to their lives. St. Joseph’s Athletics borrowed dogs from their local animal shelter to accompany them on a morning jog. The dogs came from Santa Barbara County Animal shelter and each student was paired with a pooch. All of the dogs, except one named Fred, were thrilled to get outside.
Team coach Luis Escobar wasn’t sure who was having more fun – the kids or the dogs. Either way, it’s safe to say that everyone had an outstanding time getting some much needed exercise that day. The goal of the cross country team now is to encourage people to head down to the shelter and adopt some of these wonderful dogs.
Borrowing shelter dogs for exercise is a great idea and it’s certain to motivate high school students to focus more on exercise. These dogs need the attention and it does them a lot of good to get outside of the shelter walls and see the world. Hopefully now they’ll find their forever homes.
