Meli is a rescue pup living with her human family in Athens, Greece. Her people parents, Fay and Dionisis, are animal lovers through and through, and even after rescuing Meli they have spent time taking care of the feral cats in their neighborhood. While out on walks, Fay and Dionisis noticed that stray cats started associating Meli’s presence with being fed. It started with just one cat following them on walks around town, but now a whole clowder come to greet them when they’re out walking.

What’s interesting is the important role Meli plays. She is the bridge between the humans and the stray cats. In fact, if Meli isn’t out on the walk, the cats won’t approach Fay and Dionisis. But bring Meli around and the felines come running for care. The neighbors didn’t that over 30 cats were now being fed by Meli and her family at first, but they soon realized that these cats are being taking care of. Fay and Dionisis are feeding the cats, spaying and neutering them and even finding them forever homes. This is helping to get the cats off the streets and reduce the population of feral cats in the area.

Meli is certainly returning the favor by rescuing these cats. She is a rescue herself and must know how much love and care is needed when living a life on the streets. We’re happy that Meli and her humans are taking the time to care for these kitties the way they should be cared for. Even better, controlling the feral cat population and finding homes for these felines is something that benefits everyone, human and animal.
